February 19th, 2024 by

The Volkswagen Golf turns 50 this year and VW is marking the occasion by making some updates to this classic hatchback. With high-tech features and a sharper look, the Golf GTI enters its 50s looking better than ever.

The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to start around $34,000 and go up to $42,000 depending on the trim and options.

Read on to learn more about the updates Volkswagen made to the Golf GTI for 2025!

New Features and Upgrades on the VW Golf GTI

Exterior

The 2025 Golf GTI keeps its classic look, while adding updated, sharper-looking head and tail lights. You’ll find twin chrome exhausts in the rear and have the option to choose from up to five new wheel designs. Four new colors have been added to your exterior paint options: Crystal Ice Blue Metallic, Anemone Blue Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, and Grenadilla Black Metallic. An optional black-painted roof is also available.

Interior

The interior of the new VW Golf GTI is mostly black with sporty red accents on the dash, liner, and seats. It’s equipped with either a 10.4- or 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10.2-inch driver display in the dash. Real buttons are back on the steering wheel and volume and temperature controls remain sliders located under the main touchscreen.

The biggest update is in the infotainment system: ChatGPT is built in and acts as a voice assistant. This is also a new feature on the Tiguan and VW’s electric models. Using your voice, you can ask questions, change the temperature, make navigation requests, and more!

Performance

Under the hood, you’ll find the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline engine, but the 2025 model has a bit more horsepower. Where the current model boasts 241 HP, the new model delivers up to 262 HP in the Europe-spec car. The number may differ a bit in the American model, but it should have more power than the current model.

One of the most newsworthy changes to the 2025 model is the discontinuation of the standard transmission. The only transmission choice in the new model will be the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Drivers will still enjoy quick shifts, but the driving experience is a bit less engaging than with the stick shift. Never fear, though! The 2025 Golf is still fun to drive thanks to responsive steering, sharp handling, and that powerful engine.
