Revolutionizing Performance: What to Expect from the 2024 Golf GTI

January 2nd, 2024 by

When it comes to VW cars, it’s hard to beat the sportiness of the Golf GTI. It merges fun, practicality, and technology into one incredible ride. The 2024 GTI even landed on Car and Driver Editors’ Choice 2023 list of sports compact cars.

If you liked previous iterations of the Golf GTI, you’ll love the 2024 model. This year, there are three trim options–S, SE, and Autobahn–and a host of tech and comfort features that make this classic Volkswagen even more amazing.

Explore everything the eighth generation of this Volkswagen has to offer.

Sleek and Sporty Design

The VW Golf GTI earned the nickname “hot hatch” for a reason.

The 2024 model has the classic Golf look, including the red strip in the grille, black trim, and the single-piece honeycomb lower air intake grille that has become a hallmark of Volkswagen cars.

All GTI models come standard with an LED taillight cluster and puddle lights under the side exterior mirrors, illuminating the door and the ground. It’s a feature you didn’t know you needed, but you’ll wonder how you ever did without.

GTI S models come standard with performance LED headlights, eye-catching LED fog lights on each side of the front bumper, and daytime running lights (DRLs). On the SE and Autobahn models, you’ll find an illuminated grille. Nighttime driving just got more fun.

Interior Comfort, Technology, and Driver Centric Enhancements

The interior of the new Golf GTI is sporty and practical, with cabin room comparable to a mid-sized sedan. Designed with comfort in mind, it features heated sport seats, a fully automatic adjustable driver’s seat, and a three-spoke leather-wrapped sport steering wheel. But comfort isn’t reserved for those in the cockpit. Passengers stay comfortable thanks to the optional Climatronic® 3-zone rear climate controls and optional rear heated seats.

The front sport seats pay homage to the first Golf GTI with unique ergonomics, integrated headrests, red stitching, GTI embroidery, and standard gray and black tartan fabric on the seats and backrests. The Autobahn trim comes standard with Vienna leather seating in two-tone black and gray with red accents, optional on SE models.

The interior is customizable with ambient lighting accents in the displays, dash, door, and console. Choose from 30 configurable colors–including GTI red––or set the mood with one of Volkswagen’s pre-configured settings.

Keep the tunes going with two speaker configurations. Entry S models include six speakers, while SE and Autobahn models feature the Harman/Kardon® audio system with 480 watts, nine speakers, a subwoofer, and a 12-channel amplifier. Road trips just got an upgrade.

Engine Details: Power and Efficiency

The Volkswagen Golf GTI was designed to be as fun to drive while running errands as it is on the open highway.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine–built in Volkswagen’s state-of-the-art factory in Gyor, Hungary–offers up 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. And driving it is even more fun with the 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG® transmission.

How does it handle? Three words: responsive, precise, and engaging. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager monitors every turn and adjusts both the VAQ front differential and the available DCC® adaptive chassis control system to optimize your agility, stability, and excitement.

But that’s not all. The 2024 Golf GTI comes with a range of digital driving tools that let you take control of your vehicle’s performance.

Choose your driving mode to make your ride even smoother–and more fun. Sport or Comfort mode offers a different steering weight and throttle response (perfect for winding, scenic roads), while Custom allows you to tailor the steering and throttle to your preference. Eco mode optimizes fuel efficiency.

You can also configure the hi-res 10-inch VW Digital Cockpit Pro infotainment system with touch sensitive controls to display driving information and customize how you view your data.

The IQ.DRIVE system is standard on the 2024 Golf GTI. This suite of driver assist technologies includes:

  • Front and rear radar, a front camera, and ultrasound sensors to enable Travel Assist
  • Front Assist (forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring)
  • Active Side Assist
  • Rear Traffic Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

Travel Assist is activated by a button on the steering wheel, and enables semi-automated hands-on driving capability from 0 to 95 mph.
