Volkswagen Pledges Relief for the Japanese
Dr. Horst Neumann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen [for] Human Resources stated, “There is tremendous willingness within the Volkswagen Group to help the population of Japan, which has been affected so dramatically, especially in the North-East of the country. Every day we receive emails from employees expressing great sympathy and a determination to assist people in Japan.”
Volkswagen has pledged (in unison with its partner company, Audi) to provide humanitarian aid totaling a million Euros to those in Japan effected by the recent severe earthquake and devastating tsunami. Bernd Osterloh, the President of Volkswagen Group Works Council, announced, “This week we will be calling on the workforce to contribute to a major donation campaign. Preparations are already underway. The strong feeling of solidarity demonstrated by our colleagues is overwhelming. We are standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Japan who have experienced such indescribable suffering.”
We at Low Country Volkswagen are committed to helping the cause too. Fan us on Facebook and see our links to the local Red Cross chapter committed to helping those in need, not only in Japan, but locally as well.
Another Facet of the 2011 Jetta Diamond: The GLI
The 2.0 liter- liter four- cylinder, the 2.5-liter five-cylinder, and a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel version launched in October, but the version Volkswagen enthusiasts really can not wait to get their hands on is the GLI.
The GLI promises 0-60-mph in 6.7 seconds with six speed manual transmission and 6.8 seconds with the “wet-clutch DSG”. Car and Driver got 6.4 seconds out of a test run they had with a similar model to the GLI, promising fast start times for the 2011 model. As Car and Driver stated, “The entire suspension setup inspires confidence, and the car seems more agile the faster you go. See the 328i over there? The GLI tempts you to catch up and play”.
Not only is this model quick on its feet but also has some pretty nifty interior features. The GLI is the only US Jetta with a soft-touch dashboard. The interior is trimmed in aluminum and has upholstery unlike any other Jetta. The GLI1 is priced just below $24,000 and comes with 17 inch aluminum wheels. The GLI2 adds perforated vinyl seats, a sunroof, and 18-inch wheels. The GLI3 will cost around $26,000 and adds a navigation system. No matter how you look at it, any of the choices offer a top notch, speedy, reliable, German sports sedan.
